Definition of regularly & diligently

The words ‘regularly & diligently’ sometimes relate to a contractor’s obligation to perform in a contract; but what do they actually mean?
in GLC v Cleveland Bridge and Engineering [1984] 34 BLR 50, the Judge stated that what is meant is the the contractor ‘must get on with it’ and what is required depends on the objective.
IN West Faulkner Associates v London Borough of Newham [1995] 71 BLR 1 the Judge stated it was: ‘to proceed continuously, industriously and efficiently with appropriate physical resources so as to progress the works steadily towards completion substantially in accordance withe the contractual requirements as to time, sequence and quality of work’.
Do there you have it, legal interpretations of the obligation to work ‘regularly and diligently’!
